Papa Joe's is a private-label brand developed by the German retail giant Edeka. The brand has an interesting history, having been originally inherited by Edeka through its acquisition of the Plus supermarket chain.

In 2019, Edeka strategically relaunched and expanded the Papa Joe's brand as a direct response to a high-profile pricing dispute with Kraft Heinz. When Heinz products were temporarily removed from Edeka's shelves, Papa Joe's was positioned as a high-quality, 'American-style' alternative to fill the gap. While Edeka owns the brand, it does not manufacture the sauce itself; industry reports indicate that the product is primarily produced by the renowned German condiment manufacturer Develey Senf & Feinkost GmbH. Today, the brand is widely available across Edeka's retail network, including its discount subsidiary Netto Marken-Discount.
