Wilson Sporting Goods is one of the world's most recognizable brands in athletic equipment, particularly famous for tennis, basketball, American football, golf, and baseball gear. The company traces its origins back to 1913 in Chicago, Illinois, originally established as the Ashland Manufacturing Company to find uses for slaughterhouse by-products before being renamed in honor of its early president, Thomas E. Wilson.

While engineering, product design, and research predominantly take place in the United States and specialized design centers, Wilson relies on a widespread international supply chain. Manufacturing occurs in multiple countries across Asia (such as China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia) and the Americas, depending on the specific equipment category (e.g., tennis racquets, inflatable sports balls, or golf clubs).

Ownership Structure

In 1989, Wilson was acquired by the Finnish sporting goods conglomerate Amer Sports Corporation. In 2019, Amer Sports was acquired by an international investor consortium led by Anta Sports Products Limited (a leading sportswear company headquartered in Jinjiang, Fujian, China), along with FountainVest Partners, Chip Wilson (founder of Lululemon), and Tencent. Amer Sports subsequently went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2024, with Anta Sports remaining its controlling ultimate parent company. In Germany and across Europe, Wilson products are distributed through Amer Sports subsidiaries.
