De Forest Crosley was one of Canada's most renowned historical radio manufacturers during the golden age of radio broadcasting. Formed in Toronto, Ontario, in the mid-1920s, the company was the result of a partnership bringing together the technological innovations of Dr. Lee de Forest (inventor of the Audion vacuum tube) and Powel Crosley Jr.'s American manufacturing approach, adapted specifically for the Canadian market through the De Forest Radio Corporation Ltd. of Canada.

Manufacturing and Design

De Forest Crosley radios, including floor console models featuring the distinctive round dial with aviation, police, amateur, and standard broadcast bands, were primarily manufactured in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Renowned for their intricate woodworking and distinct Canadian model names (often named after explorers, royalty, or Canadian institutions), the sets were assembled and distributed across North America throughout the late 1920s and 1930s.

Corporate Evolution

In the 1930s, the operations of De Forest Crosley were integrated into Consolidated Industries Products Ltd. and subsequently Rogers-Majestic Corporation Ltd. Following World War II and the subsequent restructuring of Canada's domestic consumer electronics industry, the Rogers-Majestic brand and related consumer lines were absorbed by Philips (Royal Philips N.V.). While the vintage De Forest Crosley brand name ceased active production decades ago, the modern rights associated with the Canadian Rogers radio manufacturing legacy transitioned to Dutch conglomerate Philips.
