Session Private Messenger app

Session is an open-source, private, decentralized messaging application developed to offer metadata-free, end-to-end encrypted communication. Originally developed by the Loki Project (which evolved into the Oxen Privacy Tech Foundation), Session routes encrypted messages through an onion-routing-style network based on the Oxen Service Node Network rather than centralized servers or requiring phone numbers or email addresses.

In 2023, the development and governance of Session transitioned under the Session Technology Foundation, a non-profit foundation established in Switzerland, alongside continued engineering and community contributions primarily originating from Australia and the global open-source community. Unlike corporate-owned communication platforms, Session focuses on strict user anonymity, decentralized operations, and open-source transparency.
