Sennheiser was founded in 1945 by Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, originally under the name Laboratorium Wennebostel (Labor W). Over decades of pioneering acoustic engineering, the brand became a global leader in high-fidelity audio equipment, creating iconic microphones, studio monitoring equipment, and premium consumer headphones, including the renowned Momentum series.

Ownership Evolution

While Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG originally designed and manufactured both professional and consumer audio gear, the company made a strategic shift in 2021 to focus entirely on its professional business. In 2022, Sennheiser officially transferred its consumer electronics division—encompassing consumer headphones, soundbars, and hearables—to Sonova Holding AG, a Swiss-based global leader in hearing care solutions. Sonova produces and markets consumer headphones under the Sennheiser brand license.

Manufacturing Footprint

Consumer electronics products such as the Sennheiser Momentum over-ear headphones are primarily manufactured in specialized assembly facilities across China and other Asian manufacturing hubs, engineered according to strict European acoustic standards.
