Ortovox is a pioneer in the mountain safety industry, founded in 1980 by Gerald Kampel and Jürgen Wegner. The brand gained international fame by developing the first double-frequency transceiver for avalanche rescue, which significantly improved safety for mountaineers and skiers. Over the decades, the brand has expanded its portfolio from technical safety equipment to high-performance outdoor clothing, particularly specializing in the use of sustainable Tasmanian merino wool.

Today, Ortovox is recognized as a leader in mountain sports safety and sustainable textile production. While the brand's creative and technical development remains rooted in Germany, manufacturing occurs across various specialized locations globally, including Europe and Asia, to maintain high technical standards for their diverse range of backpacks, safety tools, and functional apparel.

Since 2011, Ortovox has been part of the Schwan-STABILO Group. This acquisition integrated Ortovox into a larger family-owned structure that includes other notable outdoor brands like Deuter and Maier Sports. This partnership has allowed Ortovox to leverage extensive corporate resources while maintaining its commitment to environmental protection and high-alpine safety standards.
