Pusser's Rum is a storied brand deeply rooted in British naval history, specifically known as the 'original Admiralty strength' spirit. The brand's identity is based on the traditional daily rum ration, or 'tot,' issued to sailors in the Royal Navy from 1655 until 1970. The name 'Pusser' is a nautical slang term for the purser, the officer responsible for the ship's stores and the distribution of the rum ration.

After the Royal Navy ceased the rum ration in 1970 (a day known as 'Black Tot Day'), Charles Tobias, an entrepreneur and sailor, sought to preserve the unique blend. In 1979, he obtained the blending rights and the original Admiralty recipe from the Royal Navy, founding Pusser's Ltd. to make the rum available to the public for the first time.

Today, Pusser's Rum is primarily distilled in Guyana, utilizing the same historical wooden pot stills that have been in use for over two centuries. The brand is currently owned by Pusser's Rum Ltd., a company that maintains the legacy of this traditional maritime spirit, ensuring it continues to be blended according to the Admiralty's specifications. The company remains independent, focusing on premium aged rums that celebrate its historical connection to the sea.
