In 2021, a significant ownership shift occurred when General Mills, which had acquired the brand years prior, sold the Canadian operations of Liberté to General Mills' former partner, Yoplait. However, the ultimate ownership of the brand in Canada now rests with General Mills' divestiture to the French dairy giant Sodiaal, while General Mills retained certain rights in other regions. In Canada specifically, the brand is managed by Yoplait Canada (a subsidiary of General Mills during the transition, but now closely tied to the global Yoplait/Sodiaal ecosystem). Production remains localized in Canada, primarily using Canadian dairy to serve the domestic market.
