Created in 1894 by Pasquale Vena in the back room of his biscuit shop, the recipe consists of a secret blend of over 30 herbs and aromatics. The brand has grown from a local specialty to an international symbol of Italian digestive culture.

The product is still primarily manufactured in its place of origin, Pisticci, maintaining a strong connection to the Lucanian territory. Over the decades, the brand became famous for its advertising slogan "Cosa vuoi di più dalla vita? Un Lucano!" (What more do you want from life? A Lucano!).

Today, the brand remains under the ownership of the Vena family through Lucano 1894 S.r.l. While many traditional Italian spirit brands have been acquired by multinational conglomerates, Amaro Lucano stands out as a family-run enterprise that continues to manage its own production and international distribution, preserving the heritage and original craftsmanship of its founder.
