Lee was established in Kansas in 1889, while Wrangler's roots trace back to the Blue Bell Overall Company founded in North Carolina in 1904. While the brands were historically owned by the VF Corporation for several decades, they were spun off into an independent, publicly traded company called Kontoor Brands in 2019. This move allowed the brands to focus specifically on their denim heritage and global expansion. Manufacturing is highly globalized, with production occurring across multiple territories including Mexico, Nicaragua, Bangladesh, and Vietnam to serve international markets.

Today, Kontoor Brands maintains its headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina, continuing the American corporate lineage of both brands while operating a massive global supply chain.
