Gekko Brutto STR hybrid bike

Gekko is a private-label bicycle brand primarily developed for the Norwegian market by the retail group Sport 1 (Sport 1 Gruppen AS). The Gekko Brutto STR is a lightweight hybrid bicycle designed for urban commuting, light touring, and gravel paths. The brand was established around 1991 in Oslo, aiming to provide high-quality bikes with geometry and components suited for Norwegian conditions and riders.

While the brand is Norwegian in origin and design, manufacturing is outsourced to specialized factories in Asia, primarily in China (Dongguan Gekko Bicycle Co. Ltd) and Taiwan, which is standard for the global bicycle industry. The bikes are then imported and sold exclusively through Sport 1 and Anton Sport outlets. Ownership of the brand lies with Sport 1 Gruppen AS, which has been under the ultimate control of Bjørn Rune Gjelsten's Gjelsten Holding AS since 2006. In recent years, Gjelsten's retail interests, including Sport 1 and Intersport Norway, have consolidated under the Brav or Sport Holding structures, making it one of the largest sporting goods entities in Scandinavia.
