The brand was originally established in Spain in 1984 by the company Cruz Verde under the umbrella of Sara Lee. At that time, it revolutionized the Spanish market by introducing the first soap-free liquid bath and shower gel designed for everyday use. Following its initial success, the brand underwent several high-profile changes in corporate ownership. It was managed by the Sara Lee Corporation until 2009, when it was briefly under Unilever's stewardship as part of the Sara Lee personal care acquisition. However, due to antitrust regulations from the European Commission, Unilever was required to divest the brand. In 2011, Sanex was acquired by the American multinational company Colgate-Palmolive for approximately €672 million. Today, Sanex remains a key asset in Colgate-Palmolive's personal care portfolio, emphasizing advanced skin science like the BiomeProtect prebiotic complex. While its roots and major market presence are in Spain and Western Europe, its manufacturing is centralized in modern facilities across Europe, most notably in Italy.
