Olvid messaging app

Olvid is a French-developed instant messaging platform recognized for its high level of security and privacy-first architecture. Developed by a team of cryptography experts, the software is built in France and is the first of its kind to receive a Security Certification (CSPN) from the French National Cybersecurity Agency (ANSSI). Unlike many global messaging competitors, Olvid does not require a phone number or access to a user's address book, operating on a decentralized cryptographic engine that eliminates the need for central directories.

While the software is developed and maintained in France, its server-side infrastructure for message distribution is currently hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), a point that has been discussed in the context of technological sovereignty. However, the brand remains fundamentally French in its engineering and governing philosophy. In late 2023, the French government officially recommended Olvid as the preferred communication tool for ministers and state officials to ensure the protection of sensitive state discussions, further solidifying its status as a sovereign French digital product.
