Petal Visa Credit Card

Petal is a disruptive fintech company founded in 2016 by Jason Gross, Andrew Endicott, David Ehrich, and Jack Arenas in New York City. The brand was established with the mission of providing accessible credit to individuals with limited or no credit history, utilizing a proprietary "Cashflow Underwriting" system instead of traditional credit scores. This innovative approach analyzes an individual's real-time financial behavior, such as income and spending habits, to determine creditworthiness.

While Petal operates the technology and management platform, the actual Visa credit cards are issued by WebBank, a Utah-chartered industrial bank. In April 2024, Petal was acquired by Empower Finance (Empower), a San Francisco-based fintech leader specializing in alternative credit underwriting. This merger aimed to combine Petal’s credit card infrastructure with Empower’s extensive subscriber base and machine-learning capabilities to further alleviate credit insecurity globally. The physical cards are primarily manufactured and distributed within the United States to serve the domestic market.
