The 'Christie' brand was established by Scottish baker William Mellis Christie in Toronto in 1853. Known for the famous slogan "Mr. Christie, you make good cookies," the company grew to become Canada's largest biscuit manufacturer. Peek Freans, originally a British biscuit house founded in 1857 by James Peek and George Hender Frean in London, established its first Canadian bakery in 1949.

Today, the Christie brand serves as the primary label for Nabisco's portfolio in Canada, including classic products like Peek Freans Fruit Creme Biscuits. These biscuits continue to be manufactured within Canada, notably at facilities in Ontario and Quebec, maintaining a strong local heritage despite the closure of the historic Mr. Christie bakery in Toronto in 2013.

The ultimate ownership of the brand has transitioned through major corporate mergers. In 1928, Christie was acquired by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco). After Nabisco merged with Kraft Foods in 2000, and Kraft subsequently split its operations in 2012, the snack and biscuit division became Mondelēz International. As of 2026, Mondelēz International remains the global owner, managing Christie and Peek Freans under its Mondelēz Canada subsidiary.
