Conair Scale

Conair, a household name in personal care, was founded in 1959 by Leandro Rizzuto and his parents in a small garage in Queens, New York. Initially starting with hair rollers funded by the sale of the family Cadillac, the company revolutionized the industry with the introduction of the pistol-grip hair dryer. Over the decades, Conair expanded significantly through internal innovation and strategic acquisitions, such as the purchase of the Thinner brand of bath scales from Measurement Specialties Inc. in 2004.

Today, Conair is a global leader in health and beauty products, with its bathroom scales—including those under the Weight Watchers (WW) license—being a key part of its personal wellness portfolio. While the brand is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut, its consumer electronics and small appliances, including digital and body analysis scales, are primarily manufactured in China to leverage global supply chain efficiencies. In 2021, the company transitioned from a family-run business to an institutionally owned entity when it was acquired by the private equity firm American Securities LLC, though members of the Rizzuto family maintain a minority stake.
