Acana is a premium brand of pet food known for its biologically appropriate recipes. The brand originated in Alberta, Canada, under the stewardship of Champion Petfoods, a company founded in 1985 by Reinhard Muhlenfeld. The brand’s philosophy focuses on using fresh, regional ingredients and high protein content to mimic a canine's natural diet.

In 2023, the global confectionery and pet care giant Mars, Incorporated completed the acquisition of Champion Petfoods. Following this acquisition, Acana is now part of the Mars Petcare division. While the brand maintains its Canadian heritage and continues to manufacture products in its NorthStar kitchens in Alberta, it also utilizes kitchens in Kentucky to serve the United States market.
