The brand's history dates back to 1889 when Hermann Bahlsen founded the Hannoversche Cakesfabrik in Hanover, Germany. Initially known for sweet biscuits, the company expanded into savory snacks throughout the 20th century.

In 1963, the company launched ErdnußLocken, marking the introduction of the first peanut flips to the German consumer market. Following a significant corporate restructuring in 1999, the savory snack division was separated into an independent company named Lorenz Snack-World, while the biscuit business remained under the Bahlsen name.

Today, the brand is owned by the fourth generation of the Bahlsen family and operates several manufacturing sites across Europe. While large-scale production occurs in German locations such as Neunburg vorm Wald and Hankensbüttel, the company also maintains production facilities in Poland and Austria to serve its international distribution network spanning over 80 countries.
