SunnyD, originally known as Sunny Delight, was created in 1963 by Howard Dick and Phil Barney in Florida, USA. Initially popularized for its citrus flavor profile and Vitamin C content, it became a staple in households across North America and Western Europe. Over the decades, the brand underwent several ownership changes, reflecting the shifting landscape of the beverage industry.

Starting within the portfolio of Procter & Gamble, the brand was later spun off and eventually acquired by Sunny Delight Beverages Co. Since 2016, the brand has been under the ownership of Brynwood Partners, a private equity firm that manages a variety of consumer brands. Today, the drink is produced in multiple locations globally, including various bottling plants in the United States and international facilities serving regional markets such as Western Europe.
