Established in 1977, the spirit is a molasses-based blend that is often categorized as a Thai whiskey, although it technically falls under the blended spirit category due to its production methods and ingredients.

The brand is manufactured locally in Thailand and remains a staple of the domestic market. It is owned by Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev), a massive multi-national beverage corporation that dominates the Southeast Asian market. ThaiBev is owned by the TCC Group, controlled by the Sirivadhanabhakdi family, one of the wealthiest families in Thailand. The company has a significant global footprint, owning international brands like Chang beer and various Scotch whisky distilleries.
