Friele is Norway's oldest coffee house, originally established in 1799 in Bergen. The Frokostkaffe line is one of the most recognizable coffee brands in the Norwegian market. While the raw coffee beans are sourced from global coffee-producing regions (primarily Brazil and Colombia), the roasting and packaging are historically centered in Bergen, Norway.

Over the years, the ownership has transitioned from a family-owned business to a international corporate structure. Following a series of acquisitions starting in the 1980s by Douwe Egberts, the brand eventually became part of the Jacobs Douwe Egberts (JDE) group. Today, it is owned by JDE Peet's, a Dutch-American global coffee conglomerate that manages a massive portfolio of coffee and tea brands worldwide.
