The Mini is a British automotive icon that first appeared in 1959, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis for the British Motor Corporation (BMC). This image showcases several classic variants, including the Mini Moke (left), a classic wood-paneled Traveler or Countryman estate (middle), and a classic Mini saloon (right). Historically, these vehicles were manufactured at different UK plants, most notably Longbridge and Cowley, though licensing agreements saw them built in countries such as Australia, Spain, and Italy.
Over the decades, ownership transitioned from BMC to British Leyland, then to the Rover Group. In 1994, the German automotive giant BMW acquired the Rover Group. While BMW eventually sold off most Rover assets, it retained the rights to the Mini brand. Today, the modern Mini lineup is produced primarily at BMW's Plant Oxford in England, maintaining the brand's British heritage while operating under German ownership and engineering standards.
