Rügenwalder Mühle is one of Germany's most iconic food brands, originally founded in 1834 in the town of Rügenwalde, Pomerania (now Darłowo, Poland). Following World War II, the family-owned business relocated to Bad Zwischenahn in Lower Saxony, where it remains headquartered today. While historically known for traditional meat products like its signature 'Teewurst' and 'Schinken Spicker', the company pioneered a significant shift toward vegetarian and vegan meat alternatives in 2014.

In early 2024, the family-owned company was acquired by the Pfeifer & Langen Group (the same parent company behind brands like funny-frisch and Chio). This acquisition marks a new chapter for the brand, positioning it within a larger food industry conglomerate while maintaining its strong heritage and focus on innovation. Manufacturing is primarily concentrated at its specialized sites in Germany, including Bad Zwischenahn and Vechta.
