Monsavon is a historic French hygiene brand founded in 1920 by the Société des Savons Français. It gained fame for launching the first milk-based soap in 1925, which became a staple in French households. The 'Bol à Raser' (shaving bowl) is one of its most iconic traditional products, recognized for its creamy lather and classic lavender-scented formula that has remained largely unchanged for decades.
Throughout its history, the brand has changed hands several times, having been owned by L'Oréal, Procter & Gamble, and Sara Lee. In 2010, it was acquired by the multinational Unilever. However, as part of a strategic shift to focus on high-growth 'power brands,' Unilever sold its Elida Beauty division—which included Monsavon—to the American private equity firm Yellow Wood Partners. This acquisition was finalized in mid-2024, making Yellow Wood Partners the current ultimate owner of the brand heading into 2026. While the brand remains deeply rooted in French heritage and continues to manufacture many of its core products in France, its global corporate management is now based in the United States.
