Gevalia Mellemristet coffee

Gevalia is a renowned coffee brand with deep Scandinavian roots, founded in Gävle, Sweden, in 1853 by Victor Theodor Engwall. The name 'Gevalia' is the Latin translation for Gävle. For over 150 years, the brand has been synonymous with quality coffee, eventually becoming a supplier to the Royal Court of Sweden.

Today, the brand's ownership reflects the consolidation of the global coffee market. While Gevalia began as a family business, it was acquired by General Foods (now part of Kraft Foods) in 1971. In 2012, Kraft Foods spun off its grocery business to Mondelez International. Subsequently, in 2015, the coffee portfolios of Mondelez and D.E Master Blenders 1753 merged to form JDE (Jacobs Douwe Egberts). In 2020, JDE merged with Peet's Coffee to become JDE Peet's, which remains the ultimate owner today.

Manufacturing continues significantly at the original factory in Gävle, Sweden, which supplies much of the Nordic and European markets, though global distribution may involve roasting facilities in other regions depending on the specific market context.
