Samsung is a global leader in technology, with its roots tracing back to 1938 when Lee Byung-chul founded a trading company in Taikyu (now Daegu), South Korea. Originally involved in food processing and textiles, the company pivoted toward electronics in the late 1960s with the establishment of Samsung Electronics. Today, Samsung is the largest South Korean 'chaebol' (business conglomerate) and a dominant force in the global smartphone, television, and semiconductor markets.

Manufacturing for Samsung is highly diversified and globalized. While South Korea remains a primary hub for high-end research and advanced semiconductor production, the company operates massive manufacturing facilities in Vietnam, India, China, Brazil, and Indonesia. For example, Samsung’s mobile phone production is heavily concentrated in Vietnam and India, while sophisticated logic chips and memory products are manufactured in South Korea, China, and the United States, including a significant new semiconductor facility in Taylor, Texas, scheduled to be fully operational by 2026.

Ownership of the brand is managed through the Samsung Group, with Samsung Electronics being the flagship entity. The company is publicly traded on the Korea Exchange (KRX), the London Stock Exchange (LSE), and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE). Despite its public status and high level of foreign institutional investment, the founding Lee family maintains strategic control through a complex web of cross-shareholdings among various Samsung affiliates such as Samsung Life Insurance and Samsung C&T Corporation.
