Onkyo is a historic Japanese brand that has been a cornerstone of the high-fidelity audio industry since its founding in 1946. Traditionally known for its high-quality receivers, speakers, and amplifiers, the brand built a global reputation for innovation in the home cinema and personal audio markets.

Following a period of financial restructuring and the filing for bankruptcy by the original Onkyo Home Entertainment Corporation in 2022, the brand's assets and intellectual property were acquired. This move saved the legacy of Onkyo, ensuring that its technology and design philosophy continued under new management.

Today, the brand is owned through a joint venture between Premium Audio Company (a subsidiary of the American firm VOXX International) and Sharp Corporation. Manufacturing responsibilities are primarily handled by Sharp at their specialized facilities, particularly in Malaysia, while distribution and marketing are managed globally by the Premium Audio Company group. This partnership maintains the Japanese engineering spirit while leveraging an international manufacturing and distribution footprint.
