Cathedral City is a prominent brand of cheddar cheese widely recognized across the United Kingdom. Its origins date back to 1966 when it was launched by Mendip Foods Ltd, named after the Wells Cathedral in Somerset. The brand has grown to be Britain’s favorite cheese brand, known for its consistent quality and distinctive packaging.

While the brand has deep British roots, its ownership has shifted through major corporate acquisitions. For many years, it was the flagship brand of Dairy Crest. In 2019, Dairy Crest was acquired by the Canadian dairy giant Saputo Inc. Today, Cathedral City is manufactured primarily at the Davidstow Creamery in Cornwall, England, using milk sourced from dedicated local farms in the South West. Despite its international ownership, the production remains strictly centered in the UK to maintain its geographical heritage and product standards.
