It was developed in Bern, Switzerland, in 1904 by Dr. Albert Wander. This specific product is manufactured in Switzerland by Wander AG, which is a subsidiary of Associated British Foods (ABF).

While the brand has a complex ownership history involving companies like Sandoz and Novartis, the international rights (excluding the USA) were acquired by Associated British Foods in 2002. Today, the Swiss production facility remains a primary site for producing the authentic malt formula enjoyed worldwide.
