Brand History and Origin

Marianne is a classic Finnish confectionery brand known for its distinctive red-and-white or blue-and-white striped packaging. The candy was originally created in 1949 by master confectioners Aimo Martikainen and Antti Nuutinen at the Chymos factory in Lappeenranta, Finland. It was designed to combine a thin peppermint shell with a rich filling, originally chocolate in the classic version and later expanded to include toffee and other varieties.

Manufacturing and Production

Marianne candies have a strong heritage of Finnish production. Since the merger of Chymos into the Fazer Group, the manufacturing of these iconic sweets has remained in Finland. Specifically, they are produced at Fazer's specialized confectionery factory in Lappeenranta, maintaining the original craftsmanship and quality standards established decades ago.

Ownership and Global Presence

While originally a product of Chymos, the brand was acquired by Fazer in 1993. Fazer (Oy Fazer Ab) is one of the largest food corporations in Finland and remains a family-owned company headquartered in Helsinki. Under Fazer's stewardship, Marianne has become an international symbol of Finnish confectionery, exported to multiple countries while remaining deeply rooted in its Nordics heritage as it moves through 2025 and into 2026.
