The brand was founded in 1947 in Mar del Plata, Argentina, by Demetrio Elíades, Luis Sbaraglini, and Giuseppe Vaccotti. This specific packaging, featuring the art of Röf Varela and Chinese characters for Havanna (哈瓦那), represents a special artistic edition of their traditional chocolate or dulce de leche treats.

Since 2003, Havanna has been owned by the Argentine investment group Desarrollo y Gestión (DyG). While the brand has a strong international presence with coffee shops and retail points across Latin America and Europe, the primary manufacturing remains concentrated in Argentina to maintain the authentic quality of their signature dulce de leche.
