The egg cup itself is a classic design by the German company WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik), often attributed to the Bauhaus-influenced designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld. These cups are typically manufactured from WMF's signature 'Cromargan' 18/10 stainless steel, a material known for its high durability and resistance to food acids.

The accompanying plate features the Blue Onion pattern, which originated with the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory in the 18th century (around 1739).
