Cacaolat chocolate milk drink

Cacaolat is an iconic Spanish brand known for its cocoa milk drink, famously invented in Barcelona in 1933. It is recognized as the world's first industrially manufactured cocoa milkshake. The brand has maintained a strong cultural presence in Spain, particularly in Catalonia, throughout the decades.

Historically, the brand was established by the Viader family, who operated a milk processing plant in Barcelona. Over the years, ownership transitioned through several corporate hands. In 2011, after a period of financial instability under previous ownership, a joint venture between the beverage giant Damm and the confectionery group Cobega (part of the Coca-Cola Europacific Partners family) successfully bid for the company. In mid-2024, Grupo Idilia Foods (the maker of ColaCao) and Damm reached an agreement to integrate their businesses, with Idilia taking a significant stake in the brand while manufacturing remains a key focus at the Santa Coloma de Gramenet plant.
