Galle & Jessen Chocolate Pålægschokolade

Galle & Jessen is one of Denmark's most iconic confectionery brands, established in 1872 by Edvard Galle and Hans Jessen. The brand is best known for its invention of 'pålægschokolade'—thin, crisp slices of chocolate specifically designed to be eaten on bread, typically rye bread. This product has become a staple of Danish breakfast culture and lunch boxes.

While the brand started in its own factory in Copenhagen, it was acquired by the Danish confectionery giant Toms Gruppen A/S (Toms Group) in 1971. Today, the production is centralized at Toms' modern facilities. The brand maintains its heritage and strong identity as a preferred Danish household name, continuing to lead the market for chocolate sandwich toppings through its parent company's extensive distribution network.
