Ortovox is a premium German brand specializing in mountain safety and outdoor performance apparel. Founded in 1980 by Gerald Kampel and Jürgen Wegner, the company initially revolutionized mountain safety with the development of the first dual-frequency avalanche transceiver. Since its inception south of Munich, the brand has evolved into a global leader for ski touring, mountaineering, and alpine climbing equipment, known particularly for its high-performance merino wool clothing.

Over the years, Ortovox has maintained a strong commitment to sustainability through its 'ProtACT' initiative and the Ortovox Wool Promise. While the research and design remain rooted in Germany, the manufacturing is distributed globally to utilize specialized textile and hardware expertise. A significant portion of their apparel is manufactured in European facilities, while certain technical hardware and specific garment lines are produced in Asia.

In 2011, Ortovox became part of the Schwan-STABILO Group, a move that provided the brand with the financial backing and logistical network to expand its international presence.
