Kingston 62 Jamaican Gold Rum

Kingston 62 is a celebrated Jamaican rum brand formerly known as Appleton Special. It is produced at the historic Appleton Estate, which remains one of the oldest and most important sugar estates and distilleries in the Caribbean. The brand was rebranded in 2020 to pay tribute to the year Jamaica gained independence—1962—and to honor the vibrant spirit of Kingston, Jamaica.

The production occurs entirely in Jamaica, utilizing traditional copper pot and column stills. This process ensures the authentic tropical character and high-quality standards associated with Jamaican rum. The liquid is aged in oak barrels under tropical conditions, which accelerates the maturation process compared to spirits aged in cooler climates.

While the brand is deeply rooted in Jamaican heritage, it is currently owned by the Campari Group. The Italian multinational acquired J. Wray & Nephew Ltd. (the producer of Kingston 62) in 2012, integrating the iconic Jamaican spirits into their global portfolio. Today, Kingston 62 remains a staple of Jamaican culture while benefiting from the global distribution network of its Italian parent company.
