Stack Overflow The Key Macropad

The Key Macropad is a specialized computer peripheral originally born from an April Fool's Day joke by Stack Overflow in 2021. The joke centered on the idea that programmers primarily use only two functions: copy and paste. Due to overwhelming community demand, the concept was turned into a physical product through a collaboration between Stack Overflow and the keyboard enthusiast company Drop (formerly Massdrop).

There have been two main iterations: the original with a CNC-machined aluminum case and the V2.0, which features a frosted acrylic case with RGB lighting and hot-swappable switch support. The device typically comes pre-programmed with three keys: a dedicated Stack Overflow logo key (often used for macros or opening the site), a 'C' key for copying, and a 'V' key for pasting.

While designed in the United States by the Drop community and Stack Overflow team, the units are manufactured in China, which is the industry standard for mechanical keyboard components and assembly. In 2021, Stack Overflow was acquired by Prosus, a global consumer internet group, which remains the ultimate owner of the brand.
