Ecover is a pioneering eco-friendly brand founded in Malle, Belgium, in 1979 by Frans Bogaerts. The company was established with the goal of creating phosphate-free cleaning products to reduce water pollution. In 1992, Ecover opened the world's first 'ecological factory' in Malle, which remains its primary production hub. This facility is noted for its sustainable architecture, including a green roof and recycled construction materials.

While the brand remains deeply rooted in its Belgian origins, its ownership has transitioned over the decades. In 2012, Ecover merged with the American brand Method to form a global green-cleaning group. This group was subsequently acquired in 2017 by the American multinational S.C. Johnson & Son. Today, while management and much of the production still occur at the certified zero-waste facility in Belgium and another site in France, the brand is ultimately owned by the US-based family company.

The product shown is their signature dishwashing liquid, formulated with plant-based ingredients and packaged in a bottle made from 100% recycled plastic. Despite the change in corporate ownership, the brand continues to market itself as a sustainable leader in the household cleaning industry.
