Xarelto anticoagulant medication

Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a widely prescribed direct oral anticoagulant (blood thinner) designed to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and stroke in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.

The active ingredient rivaroxaban was originally developed and discovered by Bayer AG in Germany. To commercialize and distribute the medication in the United States, Bayer partnered with Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a healthcare subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. Under this cross-licensing arrangement, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) holds commercial rights and market exclusivity in the United States, while Bayer markets Xarelto in most other countries worldwide.

Manufacturing of Xarelto takes place across global supply chains. Active pharmaceutical ingredients and final solid dosage forms (tablets) are primarily produced in specialized pharmaceutical facilities located in Germany, Puerto Rico, and other global contract manufacturing sites.
