Brand Origin and History

Vivera is a pioneering brand in the plant-based and vegetarian food sector. Established in 1990 in Holten, the Netherlands, Vivera began developing meat substitutes long before plant-based foods gained mainstream popularity across Europe. Over the decades, the brand built a strong reputation for developing texture-rich meat alternatives, including plant-based steaks, burgers, mince, and kebab.

Manufacturing and Distribution

Vivera products sold throughout Europe, including major UK supermarkets such as Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Asda, are predominantly produced in the Netherlands. The company operates dedicated production facilities in Holten, Overijssel, where its plant-based protein recipes are manufactured, packaged, and distributed internationally.

Ownership

In May 2021, Vivera was acquired by JBS S.A., the world's largest meat processing company, based in São Paulo, Brazil. JBS purchased Vivera for approximately €341 million to expand its plant-based protein portfolio globally, operating it alongside other plant-based ventures while maintaining Vivera's Dutch operations and brand identity.
