Founded in 1867 by Martin Westermann in Arnsberg, Germany, the company initially started as a plumber's workshop before expanding into specialized household metalware and kitchen goods under the corporate name M. Westermann & Co. GmbH.

Throughout the decades, Wesco became famous worldwide for its durable powder-coated steel waste bins and colorful retro designs. Following financial difficulties and insolvency proceedings in late 2023 and early 2024, the Wesco brand name, trademark rights, and product portfolio were acquired by the German homeware and cookware manufacturer Naber GmbH, ensuring the continuation and modern distribution of the traditional brand.
