The brand McVitie's itself dates back to a bakery established in Scotland in 1830 by Robert McVitie. Today, the products are primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, notably at the Harlesden factory in London.

Originally part of United Biscuits, it is currently owned by pladis Global, a multinational confectionery company headquartered in London. pladis was formed in 2016 when the Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding consolidated its global snack brands, including United Biscuits, Ulker, and Godiva Chocolatier, under one umbrella.
