Breakstone's Dairy Products

Founded in 1882 by Joseph and Isaac Breakstone on New York City's Lower East Side, Breakstone's has become a staple American dairy brand recognized for its quality cottage cheese and sour cream products. The brand initially served the local community with traditional dairy staples before expanding into a nationwide household name.

Over the decades, the brand's ownership has transitioned through major corporate entities, most notably Kraft Foods (later Kraft Heinz). In a significant industry shift in 2021, Kraft Heinz sold its natural cheese business, which included Breakstone's, to the French dairy giant Groupe Lactalis. This acquisition placed the brand under the management of Lactalis Heritage Dairy.

Today, Breakstone's continues to be produced primarily within the United States, maintaining its long-standing heritage of domestic dairy production. While it is now owned by a French multinational corporation, the brand remains deeply rooted in the American market, utilizing local dairy sourcing for its distribution across North America.
