Historically known as the oldest company specializing in racket sports, it was founded in 1875 by Pierre Babolat, shortly after Walter Clopton Wingfield wrote out the rules of lawn tennis. The company originally specialized in the processing of natural gut for musical instrument strings and surgical sutures before inventing the first natural gut tennis strings.
