Contax is a legendary brand in the photography world, known for its high-performance optics and precision engineering. Originally established in 1932 by the German firm Zeiss Ikon, the brand became synonymous with high-end 35mm rangefinders and SLR cameras. Historically, the brand represents a bridge between German optical design and high-quality manufacturing.

In the 1970s, the brand's trajectory changed when Zeiss Ikon partnered with the Japanese manufacturer Yashica to produce Contax-branded cameras, later resulting in Kyocera acquiring Yashica in 1983. While the cameras were primarily manufactured in Japan by Kyocera using Carl Zeiss lenses, the brand remains an icon of precision. Although Kyocera exited the camera manufacturing business in 2005, the brand and its legacy remain under the ownership of Kyocera and Zeiss.
