Weber grills

Weber is an iconic American brand that revolutionized the outdoor cooking industry. The brand's history dates back to 1893 with the Weber Brothers Metal Works in Chicago. In 1952, George Stephen Sr., a part-owner of the metal shop, invented the first kettle grill by repurposing a metal buoy. This innovative design, which featured a lid to control temperature and prevent flare-ups, became the foundation for the modern backyard barbecue culture.

While Weber remains headquartered in Palatine, Illinois, its manufacturing strategy has evolved. Higher-end models and the classic charcoal series are primarily assembled in Huntley, Illinois, using globally sourced components. However, some entry-level series, such as the Spirit and certain portable models, are manufactured in China. In recent years, the company has focused heavily on smart grilling technology, incorporating IoT features and mobile app connectivity into their products.

Ownership of the brand transitioned from a family-held business to private equity control when BDT Capital Partners acquired a majority stake in 2010. After a brief period as a public company starting in 2021, Weber was taken private again by BDT Capital Partners in 2023. As of 2025, the brand has entered a strategic merger with Blackstone Products, forming a major powerhouse in the grilling and griddling industry under the umbrella of BDT & MSD Partners.
