MG Motor

MG, originally standing for Morris Garages, is a historic automotive brand with deep roots in British motoring heritage. Founded in 1924 by Cecil Kimber in Oxford, England, the brand became legendary for its lightweight sports cars and roadsters. Over the decades, ownership transitioned through several British entities, including British Motor Corporation (BMC), British Leyland, and the Rover Group. In the early 2000s, it was part of the MG Rover Group until the company's collapse in 2005.

Today, MG is a subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned automotive giant SAIC Motor (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation). Under SAIC's stewardship, the brand has undergone a global transformation, repositioning itself as a leader in affordable electric vehicles (EVs) and modern SUVs. While the brand maintains a strong design and engineering presence in London and Longbridge to preserve its British identity, the bulk of its manufacturing occurs in China.

Production is highly globalized, with primary assembly plants located in China (Shanghai, Nanjing, Zhengzhou, and Ningde). Additionally, MG vehicles are manufactured in Thailand, India, Indonesia, and Taiwan to serve regional markets. As of 2026, the brand continues to expand its industrial footprint with plans for new facilities in locations such as Mexico and Egypt to support its growing presence in Latin America and Africa.
