Flora is a globally recognized brand specializing in plant-based spreads and margarines. Originally launched by Unilever in the UK in 1964, the brand was developed to provide a healthier, polyunsaturated alternative to butter. In 2018, Unilever sold its spreads division to the private equity firm KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts) for approximately €6.8 billion. This division was initially operated under the name Upfield, but in September 2024, the company was rebranded as Flora Food Group to reflect its primary brand identity.

Flora products are manufactured in various locations globally to serve local markets. Historically, major production occurred in the UK (Purfleet) and the Netherlands (Rotterdam); however, Flora Food Group has consolidated its manufacturing network in recent years. Significant production now takes place in Katowice, Poland (the group's largest plant), and Kleve, Germany. As of 2026, KKR is reportedly exploring a sale of Flora Food Group, valued at approximately $10 billion, signaling a potential shift in ownership as the company continues to focus on plant-based innovation through its research center in Wageningen, Netherlands.
