Scott Sports, originally founded as Scott USA, began its journey in 1958 in Sun Valley, Idaho, when engineer Ed Scott revolutionized skiing with the invention of the aluminum ski pole. The brand entered the cycling world in 1986 and gained international fame in 1989 when Greg LeMond used Scott’s aerodynamic handlebars to win the Tour de France. Over the decades, the company shifted its center of gravity to Europe, establishing its global headquarters in Givisiez, Switzerland.

Today, Scott is a leading high-performance brand known for its lightweight carbon frames and suspension innovations. While the research, design, and engineering are conducted at their Swiss headquarters to maintain high quality and performance standards, the physical manufacturing is globalized. Most bicycle frames are produced in specialized factories in Taiwan and China, which are the industry hubs for high-end carbon fiber manufacturing, while final assembly often occurs in facilities across Europe and Asia, including the Netherlands.

As of 2025 and moving into 2026, the company's ownership has undergone a significant transition. After years of shared ownership, the South Korean conglomerate Youngone Corporation consolidated its control. Following a ruling by the International Chamber of Commerce, Youngone acquired the remaining shares from longtime Swiss CEO Beat Zaugg, becoming the ultimate owner with a near-total stake in the company. This acquisition provides Scott with the financial stability of a global manufacturing giant while allowing it to retain its Swiss-based engineering identity.
