Liberty Fuel

Liberty Oil (commonly known as Liberty) is a prominent Australian petroleum brand that specializes in the distribution and retail of fuel and lubricants. Founded in 1995 by David Goldberger and David Wieland—often referred to as 'The Davids'—the brand was established following their success with Solo Oil. Liberty quickly became a major independent player in the Australian market, known for its discount fuel pricing and extensive reach into regional and rural areas.

Over the years, the brand's ownership transitioned significantly. In 2014, Viva Energy Australia acquired a 50% stake in the company, eventually taking full ownership of the wholesale division in 2019. The retail arm was initially operated as a joint venture, but in late 2024, Viva Energy acquired the remaining 50% interest, bringing the entire Liberty brand under its umbrella. Today, Liberty serves as a value-focused retail brand within the Viva Energy portfolio, which also includes the Shell brand in Australia.

The fuel sold at Liberty stations is primarily sourced through Viva Energy’s extensive supply chain, including the Geelong Refinery in Victoria and imports via major Australian terminals. This infrastructure ensures that while the brand maintains its independent, local feel, it is backed by one of Australia’s largest integrated energy companies.
